Tanishq Showroom reports Rs. 2.5 Lac theft, Suspects caught on CCTV

A report of theft of precious gold ornaments worth Rs.2.5Lac from Tanishq Jewelry Store at Bapu Bazaar has been registered at the Surajpol Police station today.

Prima facie, the doubt is on two unidentified people, a man and woman who arrived at the store yesterday afternoon (26th June) and observed many samples of Gold jewelry, but did not purchase anything, assuring the staff that they would come back in the evening.

In what can be allegedly suspected from the CCTV video, two persons, a man and woman aged approximately 40 years, came into the showroom, asked to see a lot of highly priced jewelry. While the man kept the counter staff occupied in conversation, the lady allegedly swiped off some jewelry from the desk, and put it into the plastic bag that the man gave her. Both of them immediately walked out from the showroom.

It was just before closing the store at night, when all jewelry was counted, that the staff discovered one necklace and a pair of earrings worth Rs. 2.50 Lac missing.

Vinod Mehta, owner of the renowned Jewelry shop has lodged an FIR with the Surajpol Police today. The police is investigating the case from various angles, especially with the help of CCTV footage to identify the culprit(s).

According to the FIR, the owner doubts a couple who visited the showroom on 27th June, as shown in the CCTV footage and asked to show jewelry of high range, however not liking or purchasing anything. “They (store staff) doubt that she might have stolen the gold ornaments”, said one of the Officers on condition of anonymity.
