District Supplies officer (Rural) carried out a surprise inspection in petrol pumps in Udaipur. Filling irregularities were found in two petrol pumps and the department has initiative investigation and proceedings against the two pumps.
One petrol pump was found to be disposing 22 ml less per 5 litre. The second pump was found irregular with respect to the diesel stock.
Jaimal Singh Rathore, District Supplies officer (Rural) informed that a local fuel station was inspected by a technical expert and they found it to be disposing 22ml less fuel in every 5 litre. Another fuel station, located on Hospital road, was found short in terms of the Diesel stock. Department has initiated proceedings against both the pumps.
The sudden inspection comes on the back of Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s order on Monday for inspection of all petrol pumps in UP and random checks in other States for detecting short-selling of petrol/diesel by tampering the system associated with dispensing units.
A clarification given by one of the pump owners said, “Only two of the twenty nozzles were found to have this defect, which is permissible under law, and this was mainly due to a mechanical error and not deliberate“.
A press note to the effect was later released, which states that as per Legal Metrology (General) Rules 2011 the maximum permissible error allowed in the delivery of 5 litre petrol/diesel is +/- 25 ml at the time of verification / inspection. This clarifies the stand of the owners.
