Udaipur man arrested with Rs 47 Lakh | Hawala suspected

An Udaipur man was arrested while trying to take Rs 47 Lakhs from Udaipur to Mumbai in a private bus yesterday. Police recovered 8 bundles of Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 32 Lakhs and 15 bundles of Rs 500 amounting to Rs 15 Lakhs from the man.

An Udaipur man was arrested while trying to take Rs 47 Lakhs from Udaipur to Mumbai in a private bus yesterday. Police recovered 8 bundles of Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 32 Lakhs and 15 bundles of Rs 500 amounting to Rs 15 Lakhs from the man.

Police received a tip-off that a man travelling via Rishabh Travels bus from Udaipur to Mumbai was carrying Rs.40 Lakh to Rs. 50 Lakh with him. Acting on this tip-off, Police carried out a blockade at Kherwada Toll plaza. Police then carried out checking of man at D-4 single sleeper and recovered a bag carrying cash from him.

The man has been identified as Vasudev. He works at Kesari Gold shop in Ghantaghar area of Udaipur. He said that he was carrying the money at the behest of the shop owner to Zaveri Bazaar Mumbai for buying jewellery.

Since the man did not possess any documents to support the money that he was carrying, police has taken the amount in their custody under section 102.

When police interrogated Vasudev further, he got embroiled in a heated argument with police and was arrested by Police under section 109 and 151 for breaking law and order.

Kesari Gold shop owner, Bhandari, on being contacted said that he had given the amount to Keshav for depositing in a bank in Bhupalpura. However Keshav did not return for long. In the meanwhile Bhandari said that he got a call from Kherwada police about arresting Keshav.
