An auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) from Udaipur has been arrested along with a doctor from Gujarat for their alleged involvement in sex determination test. The duo were involved in sex determination and were caught with help of a decoy patient.
The duo were arrested in a joint operation by Rajasthan PNDT cell and Gujrat district administration. Udaipur authorities sent a decoy patient to ANM, Nirmala Kumari who is posted at a health centre in Udaipur. Nirmala agreed to take patient to a health centre in Himmatnagar to get the sex determination done. They agreed on a price of Rs 21,000 for conducting the test.
When the decoy patient and Nirmala reached Himmatnagar bus stand, Dr Jitendra Shukla of Devpujan Hospital came to receive them. Team from Rajasthan PCPDNT cell led by SP Raghuvin Singh nabbed the duo there. The sonography machine used for conducting the tests has also been seized.
As confirmed by Special Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, Naveen Jain, the duo have been booked under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.
