Two children studying in the same class of a Government School located at Bhatiyani Chohatta in the walled city area of Udaipur, got into a near fatal altercation.

One of the boys, a student of class 10 at the school attacked his classmate at lunchtime with a knife, allegedly over a past dispute. The injured boy was taken to the emergency at MB Hospital in Udaipur and is in stable condition. The boys are seemingly belonging to different communities. (Names withheld due to the boys being minors). The atmosphere in the Hathipol area and other areas in the walled city is tense. The city administration has shut down shops across Bapu Bazar and Hathipol and other establishments have pulled down the shutters to mitigate the risk of any violence. Unruly crowds have taken of the streets and are causing damage to vehicles and properties in Hathipol, Delhi Gate and Chetak Circle. Few shops have been vandalised and a mall in the centre of Hathipol is dealing with massive stone pelting, which has led to significant damage to property.

After relatives of the injured child and members of various religious and social bodies came together outside the Emergency section at the MB Hospital, the police and administration got into action immediately. The attacker has been detained and the father of the minor has been placed under arrest.
