In an awareness and empowerment update for women of the city, a girl who was being harassed by an unknown boy of Udaipur on Facebook, taught him a lesson instead of ignoring the situation.

Saroj Patel, a Businesswomen of Udaipur was constantly receiving unpleasant messages and updates from an unknown man on Facebook.  The man had a profile with a girl’s name and profile picture on Facebook and had many of Saroj’s friends as mutual friends hence Saroj added the fake profile, not knowing the consequences.

After a few days, Saroj started receiving objectionable updates from this new profile that she had added.  It took no time for her to realize that this is a fake profile under girl’s name.  She inquired and found that all her friends who were mutual friends were also receiving such updates.

She went forward and asked the Police for help, but as Facebook is headquartered elsewhere, it became cumbersome to get hold of the IP or even a contact number of the fake profile.  The Police advised her to directly approach the person behind the fake profile and somehow get his number.

She made a plan instantly and started replying to the messages and one day she asked accused to give his contact number for WhatApp chat and he obliged.  Police then nabbed the guy and he was locked up.

Whilst Saroj was on her way to lodge an FIR, the mother and wife of accused approached her, wept and asked Saroj for forgiving the man, and promised that he won’t do such a thing again.

Though this is recurring problem with Social Networking, this action by Saroj is an example of present or future victims to act on such incidences rather than stay silent.
