[Update] Chamanpura Chain Snatching

One person has been arrested in the chain snatching incident that took place at Loha Bazaar, Chamanpura on 22 June.

Sikander alias Baba s/o Iqbal Khan, a history sheeter with a few cases of attempted murder, theft and possession of illegal arms against his name, is a resident of Kheradiwada, Aloo Factory Area.  The other accused, Akhtar Ali, alias Aasu, resident of Anjuman is still absconding.  The person to whom the chain was sold by the snatchers is also on the run.  Police have launched their manhunt for the two absconding.

In what could have been a worse scenario, had it not been for CCTV cameras installed at the shop near the Shani Mandir in Chamanpura, the snatchers would have gone scot free and not been apprehended so soon.  CCTV cameras installed at a shop near the Mandir captured the incident and when police reviewed the images of the snatchers with their list of history sheeters, Sikander was identified.  Police later raided his home but he was not found.

Later on Tuesday night he was caught near the Gumaniya Nala.  During initial interrogations, he tried to mislead the police but stricter interrogation got him to spill the beans.  He accepted having committed the crime in association with Akhtar Ali.
