Udaipur, January 18, 2025 - On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the Sessions court in Sealdah found Sanjay Roy guilty of the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar hospital. The judge said the punishment would be decided on Monday, January 20, 2025. During the trial, Roy denied the charges and said he was falsely accused. He also claimed that an IPS officer was involved. The court confirmed that Roy entered the seminar room where the victim was resting and committed the crime. There was heavy security outside the court with 300 officers because of protests.
Before the verdict decision, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was confident of securing a conviction against Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the case. The investigation has relied on key forensic evidence, including DNA and toxicology reports, to link Roy to the crime. However, Roy’s defense team has challenged the evidence, arguing that the crime would have been noticed if it had occurred as described.
The victim’s father raised concerns about the investigation and legal proceedings. He stated that their lawyers and the CBI have advised them not to visit the court. He added that the CBI never called them to any office but visited their home instead. The father also highlighted gaps in the investigation, pointing out that swabs were not collected from bite marks found on his daughter’s neck. He mentioned that the post-mortem report did not provide concrete evidence.
The father revealed that the DNA report suggests the presence of six individuals four men and two women at the crime scene. He insists that all those involved should be punished. He expressed dissatisfaction with the efforts made by the CBI and hinted at the possibility of other individuals being involved in the case.
