April 28, 2026 - Cole Tomas Allen (31), the main suspect in the April 25, 2026, security breach and shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, has been charged with attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump and has been held in custody pending further hearings.
If convicted, the accused could face life imprisonment. Allen also faces charges related to firearms and assault on federal officers. The firearm charges carry maximum sentences of 10 years.
The accused appeared in Federal Court for the first time on Monday (April 27) and is due to appear in Court again on April 30.
Prosecutors say he travelled from California heavily armed, carrying a 12-gauge shotgun, a .38 caliber pistol and multiple knives. Authorities believe the attack was planned for weeks in advance.
No major prior criminal history was publicly reported.
The third alleged assassination attempt against the US President in less than two years has the Federal law enforcement officials scrambling to review the President’s protection protocols.
