City of Lakes, a place so calm, so quiet, so beautiful and so much loved by its people and visitors is no more the same. “Change is the law of nature” and same is happening to this wonderful place. But this change is not in the favor of the city. The peace, calmness and quietness of the city are being hurt every other day. Crime news frequently occupies maximum space of the Local Dailies. Killing of girl child, feticide and now, fencing, firing, bashing has become common.

After a few peaceful, non-violent months, organized crimes are rolling back in the city of lakes. Majority of crimes have been committed in broad light in various parts of Udaipur. Though the bashing, kicking and firing were not done on a large scale but they are deepening their roots very fast in the heart of the city. These recent push of criminal activities by small time gangs has created an alarming situation in Udaipur.

After the downfall of self proclaimed DONS of Udaipur like Siraj, Lala, Bunty and Iqbal. May be we can see another era of some small time criminals taking positions of late dons.

Case1 July 28, 2010, a guy with his gang smashed another guy’s head with knife openly at a petrol pump near Chetak Circle.

Case2 In another violent incident at Bombay Bazar, Fateh Sagar, a man was attacked with swords by some anti- social group.

Case3 A gang of criminals loaded with pistols were chasing a guy, they fired several rounds and in that an innocent civilian was hurt with a bullet. This happened near Teli Mohalla.

Case4 Another gang of criminals equipped with swords were after a man and was witnessed by several people at Delhi Gate Circle on July 12, 2010.

Case5 A student of St. Paul’s school was kidnapped by 2 people just outside the school area on July 14, 2010. But luckily they left the student unharmed.

Being a favorite tourist spot it also increases the responsibility of government authorities to sustain the name of Udaipur as a peaceful place for anyone who visit it.

But, unfortunately everything seems to be beyond the control. However, in almost every case local police has successfully caught culprits but that’s not the problem solving formula which can stop these bloody games forever. Locals should come forward to help Police, living peacefully is our basic right and a handful of criminals cannot overpower the unity of local public.
