212 Unsafe Schools in State to Be Relocated for Student Safety
Jan 1, 2026 - The Education Department has taken a major step to ensure student safety across the State. Students from a total of 212 dilapidated school buildings will be temporarily shifted to nearby safe Senior Secondary schools. The department has prepared a detailed list of such dilapidated schools.
This process was initially planned during the winter vacation; however, owing to staff being on leave, it will now begin immediately after the holidays end.
Students from government primary schools with dilapidated buildings and enrollment of 14 or fewer, and government upper primary schools with enrollment of 29 or fewer, will be accommodated in the nearest school and merged with the same class levels to ensure that academic activities are not disrupted.
The Education Department has identified 502 schools across the State which are operating in dilapidated buildings. Of these, 212 school students will be relocated to nearby safe school buildings, while 290 schools will continue operating in their existing structures for the time being.
