Alleged anti-India accusations have landed a Kashmiri student in trouble with the Police as well as with BJP supported student body ABVP.

In an incident that occurred in the local Techno NJR Engineering College, a Kashmiri student, Mudasir Rashid has been suspended pending final reports from Police investigation.  Mudasir has been accused by ABVP leaders of posting anti-India slogans on his Facebook page and pro-Pakistan slogans in an audio that has gone viral.

ABVP local President Jayesh Joshi has accused Mudasir of shouting “Pakistan Zindabad” in an audio during argument between the students of the college.  This accusation has currently been falsified as no such slogan was heard in the audio.

Earlier during the day on Tuesday, students of ABVP came to the Techno NJR and started throwing their weight about by burning paper and conducting a commotion in the college premises.  They alleged that Mudasir has been posting anti-India slogans and they had come to teach him a lesson.  Following this complaint, the Police intervened and took Mudassar into custody, putting a charge under Section 124A over him, something that the student and other students of Techno NJR have condemned.

Meanwhile, many students of the Techno have confirmed and alleged that certain students, primarily belonging to the ABVP group had started behaving in a derogatory manner with all Kashmiri students on campus post the Uri attacks.  They were seen to be instigating the students over a period of time, thereby causing them discomfort.

As per RS Vyas, who has filed a written complaint with the Police on the incident, the college has 10 students who belong to Kashmir, of which 5 are girls. He mentioned in his report that these students are orphans and the college has taken them into their academic stream as a part of the colleges’ Corporate Social Responsibility program.  Vyas has also alleged that the accusations are false and facts have not been presented correctly.

Vyas has also said in this report that on 24 September, which is 3 days before the incident, certain students had gone outside the room of Mudasir, who is a student of the Civil Engineering stream and belongs to Srinagar, and shouted slogans against him and his group of students.  Students have also alleged that the Kashmiri students are ignored by other students in the campus and are never included in the general group.  Over the last few days, following the Uri attack, this seclusion had worsened and certain students, allegedly belonging to the same ABVP group that attacked college campus, had got together and instigated the Kashmiri students.

However, till the Police investigation is over, nothing much can be commented, whereas facts and statements presented by the students and the Chairman RS Vyas, it seems that accusation related facts have been tweaked with.

Deputy SP Bhagwat Singh Hingad has said that the police are investigating into the reports as well as allegations.

Certain senior students of the college also felt that such accusations and instigation by political student union representative may well serve their alleged motives, but could result in a very negative way towards the governments initiatives of inclusion with the J&K people, who are already reeling under political pressures and intentions on either side of the border.
