Applications Open for CBSE Class 10 Second Exam; Check Key Dates & Eligibility

CBSE begins applications for Class 10 second exam 2026 under two-exam policy; check dates, eligibility, fees and important rules for improvement and Compartment students

April 18, 2026 - The process for submitting the List of Candidates (LOC) and fees for the second exam of Class 10 under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) began from April 16 for CBSE-affiliated schools under its two-exam policy. The exam has been schedule from May 15 to June 1, 2026.

A three-phase schedule has been issued for the above:

  • Phase 1: April 16 (around noon) to April 20 - Examination fee payment
  • Phase 2: April 16 to April 20 - LOC submission and fee payment
  • Phase 3: April 21 to April 22 - LOC submission and LATE fee payment

The second exam is optional and is for those students who wish to improve their performance from the first exam based on the result which came out on April 15, 2026. It is also for those who have to clear Compartment subjects. Such students are eligible to apply for only up to three subjects from Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Languages by paying a fee of Rs 960.

Who Can Appear for Second Exam?

  • Students who have appeared for the first Board exam
  • Students who have passed but want to improve performance
  • Students who sat for the first exam in at least three or more subjects
  • Students placed in the Compartment category
  • Students from the 2025 Compartment batch
  • Students who passed by subject replacement
  • Sports students as permitted by the Board
  • Students under UFM Category 1, if otherwise eligible
  • Students already registered under the CWSN category in the first exam

What is Not Allowed?

  • No new names will be added to the LOC
  • Change of subjects is not allowed, except for Mathematics, as per policy
  • No correction in student data from the first examination
  • No new CWSN candidates will be added

The CBSE two-exam policy was introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the aim to reduce pressure on students and give them another chance to improve their scores in the same academic year.
