Benefits of Ethical Hacking: Workshop Attended by Hundreds
Today was the first day of the two day workshop ‘Hacktrack’ organized at S.S. College of Engineering, in association with Techfest IIT Bombay and TechDefense Pvt. Ltd.
Chief guest Mr. R.N. Mathur inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp and then addressed the students about the importance and need of ethical hacking. After this Mr. Abhay Singhvi, M.D. S.S. Engineering College and Mr. Piyush Sarupriya, Executive Director welcomed all the guests and dignitaries with bouquet.

Then the stage was taken over by the star of the show Mr. Sunny Vaghela. He explained the students about how the hackers hack sites and how one can be protected from them. He did this by giving various vibrant examples. He sited facts and figures about cyber crime rate and also told how growth rate of cyber crimes have grown up to 200 % and that India ranks third in cyber crimes ranking.
Vagehla further threw light on the job opportunities and career prospects in the field of ethical hacking. He informed the students that there is a need of around 1 lakh, 88 thousand ethical hackers for various posts out of which only 22 thousand posts are occupied. Therefore he suggested that students can make lucrative and productive careers in Information Security and Ethical Hacking.
In this eight hour long workshop Sunny Vagehla and Ankush Mukul gave many live presentations. The schedule and various topics of discussion of today’s workshop were as follows: 1. Cyber Ethics: 0.5 hours 2. Information Gathering and Scanning Methodologies: 1 hour 3. Trojans and Backdoors: 0.5 hours 4. Google Hacking: 0.5 hours 5. Wireless Hacking and Security: 0.5 hours 6. Web Application Attacks: 4 hours 7. Mobile, VoIP Hacking and Security: 2 hours Comprehensive Course Material and Ethical Hacking Tools were provided to the participants. Tomorrow’s topics of discussion will be: 1. System and Network Hacking: 1 hour 2. Email Hacking: 1 hour 3. Introduction to Cyber Investigation: 1 hour 4. Investigation Methodologies: 1 hour 5. Difficulty Handling Session and Exam: 2 hourToppers of the workshop will be personally interviewed by Sunny Vaghela and will receive a chance to work with him on security projects.
Certificate of “Certified Ethical Hacking Expert-Level 1” will be given to participants from TechDefence and TechFest 2011. The workshop is scheduled to be wrap up tomorrow by 6.00 p.m.
