Udaipur, April 17, 2026 - Following objections raised by Udaipur MP Dr Manna Lal Rawat over alleged "historical inaccuracies and promotion of Left-leaning ideology" in school textbooks, the Education Department has ordered the removal of four books from Classes 9 to 12 for the academic session 2026–27.

A directive has been issued by the Deputy Director of Social Education, Rajasthan, Bikaner, to all District Education Officers and District Project Coordinators under Samagra Shiksha. The order says that the following textbooks will no longer be taught in schools:

  • Class 9: Rajasthan’s Freedom Movement and Valor Tradition (Hindi & English medium)
  • Class 10: Rajasthan History and Culture (Hindi & English medium)
  • Class 11: Golden India After Independence Part-1 (Hindi & English medium)
  • Class 12: Golden India After Independence Part-2 (Hindi & English medium)

As per reports, MP Rawat had specifically objected to Chapter 4 (Page 42) of the Class 9 textbook published by Rajasthan State Textbook Board, Jaipur, demanding "corrections in certain historical facts". However, Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan had reportedly maintained that the content was accurate and required no changes.

Dissatisfied, the MP wrote to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma claiming the comments by the Board are "completely false and influenced by Leftist ideology". He also alleged that the opinion given by the panel of authors contains several misleading remarks.

He further pointed out that the Board claimed the referenced facts were taken from pages 42 and 54 of a book published in 2001 by historian Dr Brij Kishore Sharma through the Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy, Jaipur. However, he pointed out that in 2001 the State had a Congress government, and alleged that such content was deliberately included in the curriculum during that period.

MP Rawat said that the use of objectionable terms such as “multicultural nation” and “sub-national identities” go against Indian nationalist sentiment and is entirely influenced by Leftist ideology. Through such terminology, the panel of authors has attempted to establish its own narrative, he claimed.

Additionally, Rawat objected to the alleged comparison between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) movement and the freedom struggle led by Govind Guru at Mangarh Dham, alleging that such comparisons are "historically inaccurate" since the JMM movement occurred post-independence.

Following multiple objections, the Education Department finally ordered the discontinuation of these four textbooks from the upcoming academic session.
