CBSE Cancels Jaipur School Affiliation Over Student's Death
CBSE cancels Neerja Modi School’s affiliation for Classes 9 to 12 after allegations of serious safety lapses in the Amaira suicide case
Dec 31, 2025 – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled the Senior Secondary affiliation of Jaipur’s Neerja Modi School with immediate effect alleging serious negligence and violation of safety norms in the case involving the death of a 9-year-old student, Amaira.
The Class 4 student died on November 1 after jumping from the fourth floor of the school building. Following the incident, a CBSE inquiry committee inspected the school. Based on the committee’s report, the school management was issued a notice seeking clarification, which was submitted on December 19.
After analysing the response, CBSE is believed to have found clear violations of safety standards. The Board said that had safety guidelines and counselling protocols been followed, the incident could have been prevented. According to the CBSE, the inquiry also revealed that the school attempted to destroy evidence, which is a serious violation of the law.
Based on these findings, CBSE has cancelled the school’s affiliation from Classes 9 to 12. The decision regarding affiliation up to Class 8 has been left to the State Government.
The cancellation will not affect students of the 2025-26 academic session. Class 10 and 12 students will be allowed to appear for Board examinations, while Class 9 and 11 students will be shifted to other schools.
The school had affiliation valid till March 31, 2029, and currently has around 5,000 students.
