Udaipur, February 22, 2025 - The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already begun the preparations to conduct exams twice a year from next year. Students will be allowed to take exams twice a year and only the best score will be considered.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the twice-a-year exam system would be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year. Following a recent meeting chaired by Pradhan, the CBSE Board has put up this proposal for public feedback.

However, before implementing the plan, CBSE is trying to address the challenges related to conducting two exams - evaluating the question papers and declaring results before the start of the new session.

Another point that is being considered by the Board is reducing the duration of the Grade 10 exams from a month to less than two weeks. Currently, the schedule is such so that the papers for subjects chosen by the student do not fall on the same day. As a result, the exam stretches over a month with a gap of 3-10 days being there between papers.

According to CBSE sources, if the twice-a-year exam system is implemented, the gap between papers will need to be reduced allowing the exams to be completed within 7-10 days.

However, the sources shared, timeframe of the exam is likely to remain the same. In some regions, the challenge of conducting exams earlier due to harsh winter conditions could arise. If that happens, there will be less time available for studying, they said.
