CBSE Tells Schools to Issue Class 11 Registration Numbers to Students Immediately

Nov 7, 2025 - The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday, November 6, issued strict instructions to schools, directing them to immediately issue registration numbers to their Grade 11 students. The Board also warned of action against schools failing to comply.

In a circular dated November 4, 2025, the Board said that contrary to its October 30 instructions regarding this, many schools were not sharing the Grade 11 registration numbers required for the JEE Main application process.

These directions come after numerous complaints were made to the Board from parents and students across several States, saying that several CBSE-affiliated schools were delaying the issuance of Grade 11 registration numbers. Owing to this delay, students are facing difficulties in filling out the JEE Main 2026 application form. This is a mandatory requirement for the exam.

The application window for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 opened on October 31 and will close on November 27. The city of examination will be announced at the beginning of January 2026.

The circular, signed by Joint Secretary (Coordination) Agarwal, instructs all school principals and heads to comply with the order without delay to avoid any inconvenience to students.
