Udaipur, February 1, 2025 - The Education Department has announced that for the 2025-26 academic session, the age of children for Class 1 admission will be calculated based on their age as of July 31, 2025. This means children must be 6 years old by July 31 to be eligible for admission.
Previous Year’s Age Calculation Led to Fewer Admissions
Last year, the age calculation for admissions in government schools was based on October 1. As a result, very few children were admitted. The new rule is expected to change that, making more children eligible for Class 1 admission this year.
No Age Restrictions for Anganwadi, Bal Vatika, or Training Centers
It is important to note that there will be no age restrictions for children in Anganwadi, Bal Vatika, or Training Centers (TCs). Additionally, children who are already enrolled in schools will not be affected by the new age calculation rule.
40% Drop in Class 1 Admissions Last Year
The new age rule for Class 1 admissions caused a 40% drop in students last year. Sher Singh Chouhan, President of the Panchayati Raj and Secondary Teachers' Association, said the decrease was large. He mentioned that the government might change the rule soon, possibly lowering the minimum age for admission to 5 years.
