March 22, 2025 - All universities and colleges in the country will have to install sanitary pad vending machines on campus. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all educational institutions to ensure improvement in menstrual hygiene on campus. Higher education institutions will have to submit a report in this regard by March 25.

In a letter written to the States and university Vice-Chancellors by UGC secretary Professor Manish Joshi, it was said that incinerators (for burning waste materials) should also be installed on the campuses of the institutions.

The aim of this exercise is to promote menstrual hygiene and create a comfortable environment for women in educational institutions, says UGC.
