Fishery Farm Training to start in MPUAT
The College of Fisheries of the Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur has announced the setting up of an Experiential Training Unit on Water Agriculture (Fish Farming).The Indian Farming Research Institute, New Delhi, under its Education Division has sanctioned Rs. 1.83 crore for the establishment of two Experiential Training Units in MPUAT.
The College of Fisheries of the Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur has announced the setting up of an Experiential Training Unit on Water Agriculture (Fish Farming).
The Indian Farming Research Institute, New Delhi, under its Education Division has sanctioned Rs. 1.83 crore for the establishment of two Experiential Training Units in MPUAT.
Dr. Subodh Sharma, spokesperson of the University said, “An amount of Rs. 77.5 lac has been approved for Water Agriculture (Fish Farming), which will be the first of its kind in the College of Fisheries. The remaining Rs. 30.8 lac was approved for the College of Agriculture and Forestry, Jhalawad”. This has been sanctioned in the current financial year; the work on the same is scheduled to be initiated by the college.
According to the information provided, a review was conducted in December 2011 by the Indian Farming Research Institute, which was done by Dr. C. Deva Kumar, Managing Director (EPD); Professor S.S. Chahal, Vice Chancellor, MPUAT; Dr. Vimal Sharma, Dean, College of Fisheries, MPUAT. It was in this review that the requirement of such a unit was discussed, so that the first batch of the College can be provided with the inherent benefit of such an initiative.
Dr. Vimal Sharma said, “By investing Rs. 43 lac, the fishery farm will be installed. The farms lakes would be used by the college students for on-field experiential training and the income generated from here will be equally distributed among the students”
