In order to keep a check on the frauds regarding distance courses, UGC will now post guidelines on its website. These guidelines will provide details on the approved distance education and learning programmes so that people do not fall prey to cheating in the name of education.

The Human Resource Development Ministry has sent guidelines for students, teachers and educational institutes as per instructions of Supreme Court. It has been clarified that only the courses enlisted on the website under distance education will be approved by UGC. If a student takes up any course other than the listed ones and falls prey to any cheating, he or she will be solely responsible for the fraud. Every student needs to be careful and must follow UGC guidelines for distance courses.

UGC will provide a list of approved courses on its website. There will also be a list of approved institutes on the website. No other courses other than the ones provided on the website will be approved. Higher educational institutes will have to run courses as per the norms of UGC Distance Learning Courses Regulation 2017. If any of the norms are not followed, then UGC has the right to cancel even the regular courses of that particular institute.
