Joint first place of highest pass percentage has gone to Trivandrum and Vijayawada at 99.79% while Chennai with 99.58% is a close second; Ajmer slips from sixth spot to 10th
April 16, 2026 - The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced Class 10 results on Wednesday (April 15). Notably, for the first time in the Board’s history, results were declared in April. CBSE has attributed the early result, nearly a month ahead of the usual mid-May schedule, to large-scale digitisation and a streamlined evaluation process involving around 7 lakh evaluators.
Joint first place of highest pass percentage has gone to Trivandrum and Vijayawada at 99.79% while Chennai with 99.58% is a close second. Despite a strong performance, Ajmer region slipped in rankings from sixth spot last year to 10th in 2026.
Girls have once again outperformed boys in the national results with a pass percentage of 94.99%, vis-a-vis the boys at 92.69%. This marks the 27th consecutive year in which girls have achieved better results than boys. However, the gap this year is only marginally up when compared to previous years. Last year, girls recorded a pass percentage of 95.00%, with boys at 92.63%.
The transgender category saw a decline in 2026 with a pass percentage of 87.50%.
According to data, boys dominated the results from 1985 to 1990. However, as girls’ enrolment in schools increased, the trend began to shift. From 1991–92 onwards, boys' results ranged between 68% to 71%, while girls reached around 65%. By 2000–01, girls achieved 90% results compared to boys at 88%. Over the past 15 years, girls’ results have reached up to 99%, while boys have reached around 96.5%.
In Ajmer region, girls recorded a pass percentage of 95.88%, while boys achieved 94%, giving girls a lead of 1.88%. The overall pass percentage was 94.78% (down from 95.44% last year), marking a decline of 0.66% compared to the previous year.
