In a move towards enhancing career awareness among high school students, the education department has launched a pioneering vocational education module for students in Class 9-12. This innovative curriculum allows students to explore four professions or jobs of their choice within the first three months of the academic session. Developed by the State Institute for Educational Research and Training in Udaipur, the module aims to familiarize students with a diverse range of job opportunities available locally and nationally before they graduate from Class 12.
The curriculum, comprising a list of 500 job titles, is primarily focused on regional industries, catering to the specific needs and potentials of different areas. For example, students in Udaipur can delve into career options in sectors such as hospitality and marble industries, prominent in their region.
Kamlendra Ranawat, spokesperson for MERT, underscored the dual objectives of the initiative. "The scheme aims to strengthen the employability of our students while simultaneously boosting the local industry and job-producing sector," he stated.
Highlighting the necessity of such a module, Ranawat noted that many students typically limit their career aspirations to traditional government jobs attained through competitive exams. However, with the demand outweighing the supply in these sectors, students often find themselves at a loss after years of effort.
"The module will provide exposure to job titles that students were previously unaware of," Ranawat explained. Students will be required to conduct in-depth research on four chosen professions, including the necessary qualifications and skill sets, under the guidance of trained teachers.
Furthermore, the curriculum incorporates visits to major job-producing sectors to provide students with practical insights into various professions.
"This initiative is poised to revolutionize career guidance for high school students, empowering them with comprehensive knowledge and skills to make informed career choices." - Ranawat.
The vocational education module signifies a proactive step towards aligning education with the evolving demands of the job market, equipping students with the requisite tools to embark on successful career paths.
