Govt Cracks Down on MBBS Fee Overcharge; Orders Refund with Interest

Private medical colleges cannot charge beyond Rs 18.90 lakh, says State Government

Oct 29, 2025 – Rajasthan government has taken strict action against private medical colleges charging arbitrary fees for MBBS seats under various quotas. Yesterday, eight medical colleges were ordered to refund the excess fees collected, along with 12% interest.

The government has already fixed the annual MBBS fee at Rs 18.90 lakh. Two rounds of NEET UG counselling for MBBS seats have been completed, and during the third round, the Board received complaints that eight private medical colleges were charging higher fees. As a result, the third round of counselling was put on hold.

The government has made it clear that private medical colleges will have no discretion in fee determination. From now on, only the fee decided by the State Government’s Fee Determination Committee can be charged. And private colleges will not be allowed to charge any amount above the prescribed fee for NRI and management quota seats.

This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Medical Education Secretary Ambrish Kumar, attended by representatives of the NEET UG Counselling Board and private medical colleges. The Board has also said clearly that no college is allowed to increase fees on its own under any circumstances.
