MLSU has been issued a notice by High Court in case of a petition filed against pronouncing Sukhadia University Teachers’ Association (SUTA) as unconstitutional.

SUTA was established in 1982. Besides SUTA, MLSU also has Unions of Non-teaching and fourth grade employees. However, MLSU has specifically picked SUTA and pronounced it as unconstitutional. A petition was filed against this in the High Court by members of SUTA.

High Court Judge Nirmaljeet Kaur issued a notice in this regard to MLSU. Advocate Chandrashekhar Kotwani had argued that as per Indian Constitution Article 19, every citizen has a right to peaceful demonstration and for forming unions. Pronouncement of SUTA as unconstitutional by MLSU was akin to dishonouring the constitution, argued Kotwani.

Taking cognisance of the arguments by Kotwani, High Court Judge issued a notice to MLSU. Next hearing in this case will take place on 29 May.
