IIM U builds Special Rest house for Security & Driving Staff

‘Abhinandan Kutir’ is a realization of a sustainable thought process. This security and driving staff rest house at IIM Udaipur called 'Abhinandan Kutir' made in the vernacular architecture style is being inaugurated tomorrow morning at 11 am by Toine van Megen, Founder-Member, Auroville's Renewable Energy Group.

‘Abhinandan Kutir’ is a realization of a sustainable thought process. This security and driving staff rest house at IIM Udaipur called ‘Abhinandan Kutir’ made in the vernacular architecture style is being inaugurated tomorrow morning at 11 am by Toine van Megen, Founder-Member, Auroville’s Renewable Energy Group.

Megen also served as the CEO of Suzlon Energy Ltd. The project implemented at IIM Udaipur campus aims to revive diminishing art and craft forms and present an assortment of vernacular architecture and traditional art and crafts.

The Earth Architecture used for the ‘Kutir’ has immense potential of connecting with local artisans and craftsmen, thus shaping and developing the scope of urbanity, much closer to the heart of residents, which is a growing need, considering the rise in urban population.

During earlier times, humans and their commercial interests survived amicably alongside ecology, owing to the existence of arts and crafts.

We aim to bring forth the immense potential of our traditional building skills and art and craft forms. Therefore over here, we explored the craft of pottery, with traditional building styles and vernacular Earth Architecture.

This assortment perfectly aids to the growing concern over ‘Energy Crisis’, ‘Diminishing Traditional Wisdom’ and ‘Fading Arts and Crafts.’ Engagement of traditional craftsmen will ensure the legacy of centuries to live and emerge.

Earth Architecture characteristically has low embodied energy, which is an imperative requirement for saving the environment.

The availability of materials at the site itself, helps in reducing pollution in various processes, which are skipped altogether such as procuring, processing and transportation the usage of local materials certifies lower emissions.

Earth buildings also have an integral medicinal value associated with them. These buildings are earthquake proof and in turn strengthen the sub-strata below.

It creates more efficient thermal and acoustic isolation, and adapts itself to the local environment in which we live.

The cow-dung used for plaster increases the medicinal values of the system. While developing, we aim to learn from our immensely potent traditional wisdom and set-forth new standards.
