The fourth day of the CSI-MATLAB workshop at the MLSU University Computer Centre witnessed a lecture on Image Segmentation, where Professor Chirag Paunwala of the Sarvajanki College of Engineering and Technology, Surat, explained the basics of Image Enhancement.
In the first session, the participants got the opportunity of taking on various images, where they added audio to the images and then using MATLAB, removed the audio, without affecting the quality of the images. The participants further got a practical session on different edge enhancement techniques.
In the second session, Prof Chirag gave a basic idea of Image Segmentation using practical applications like vehicle detection, object identification and vehicle number plate identification.
Research on image segmentation is in its infancy and holds potential exploration opportunities for scientists. Prof. Chirag also explained character recognition using Character Image Segmentation, where Images captured through bio-metric devices also needed to go through image segmentation and enhancement before getting recognized by the system.
Dr. N.K. Pareek and Dr.Manju Mandot helped participants with hands-on experimentation on various filters on live images.
On January 11th, the fifth day of the workshop, Associate Professor Meeta Poniwala of Engineering College, Surat will be taking theoretical and practical session on Digital Watermarking for images using MATLAB.
