The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025. Candidates aiming to appear in the prestigious exam next year can check the details on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. 

Here are the main criteria for Indian nationals who wish to appear for the JEE Advanced exam:

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Performance in JEE Main 2025 - Only candidates among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (across all categories) in the BE/BTech paper (Paper 1) of JEE Main 2025 are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025.
  2. Age Limit - Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2000. However, SC, ST, and PwD candidates have a five-year age relaxation, allowing those born on or after October 1, 1995, to attempt the exam.
  3. Number of Attempts - Each candidate is allowed a maximum of three attempts in three consecutive years.
  4. Class 12 Examination Appearance - Candidates should have taken their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025. They must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  5. Previous Admission at IITs - Candidates who were previously admitted to an IIT are not eligible to take JEE Advanced again.

Reservation Breakdown for Candidates

  • The top 2,50,000 candidates will be selected from JEE Main 2025 based on the following reservation breakdown:
  • Open Category:1,01,250 seats  
  • General-EWS Category:25,000 seats  
  • OBC-NCL Category:67,500 seats  
  • SC Category: 37,500 seats  
  • ST Category: 18,750 seats  

Additionally, there is a five percent horizontal reservation for PwD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates across all categories.

These guidelines are essential for students planning to take JEE Advanced, as meeting the eligibility criteria is the first step towards IIT admission.
