Massive Income Tax Raid at Pacific Group

Pacific Group of Institutions, Udaipur has once again come into the spotlight after the Income Tax Department conducted a raid on the parent company and its connected offices early Wednesday morning, according to sources.

In what can be arguably considered to be the biggest Income Tax raids in the city, the department has targeted multiple well known groups run by eminent personalities, two of whom are heavily into education sector having multiple colleges across the region, including Gujarat and the third one being a renowned builder of the city.

The sources further informed that at least 21 teams of the department from all over the state flew down to Udaipur and commenced this operation. Around 150 officials in these teams are carrying out inspections at various institutes, colleges and other establishments of the Pacific Group and the other entities.

Officials on the other hand, have declined to reveal the exact nature of the raid calling it more of a survey, which will continue for days to come. On the first day, beginning in the wee hours of the morning today, the flying squad visited offices and scrutinized the income documents and account books. Few documents, many of them related to land acquisitions and allegedly a large amount of cash were also seized during inspection, sources said.

A tight environment is being ensured by the teams who are executing this raid to get vital information about the Pacific Group, the other two entities and all other people associated with them, informed sources.

The Pacific group, which is one of the most well known and operationally the largest privately held educational organization in the region operates multiple colleges both in the city and neighboring states under the name PAHER society.  They are into basic graduate courses, technical courses as well as healthcare business.  Pacific has recently opened its Medical College and Hospital on the outskirts of Udaipur.

On speaking to people across the city, the general perception which followed was that it is distressing how large entities specially into noble professions such as education and healthcare can be having such anomalies in their operations which would result in raids by IT.
