Udaipur, Dec 22, 2025 - The 33rd Convocation Ceremony of Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) was held on Sunday (December 21) at the RNT Medical College Auditorium, Udaipur. Around 255 research scholars from various faculties were conferred with PhD degrees while 109 students were awarded gold medals by the Governor of Rajasthan and Chancellor Haribhau Bagade.

On the occasion, the newly-constructed block of the Department of Pharmacy was also inaugurated.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Bagade said that in ancient times, the guru and disciple were like members of the same family, which enabled continuous evaluation of students. He urged students to always follow the path of truth, uphold righteousness and work for the welfare of humanity. He noted that the number of people pursuing higher education in tribal areas remains comparatively low. Poverty, he said, can be eradicated only through education and society must promote education more strongly.

The Governor further said that continuous efforts must be made to bring universities into the top national and global rankings.

Speaking at the convocation, Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria said that the occasion is not merely about distributing degrees, but reflects the collective dedication of teachers, parents and institutions in shaping a student’s life. Progress in life, he said, is possible through the blessings of teachers, and as long as humanity exists, respect for the guru will endure. He pointed out that the majority of gold medals and PhD degrees at the ceremony were awarded to female students, which indicates that society is moving in the right direction.

Stressed that educational institutions must become centres of service, he called upon students to use their knowledge in the interest of the nation and society and to contribute to the Viksit Bharat Mission 2047.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr Premchand Bairwa said the State Government is continuously working to promote higher education. Strong policy decisions are being taken at the government level, and there is a firm commitment to overcoming resource constraints.

Minister of State for Public Works and Women & Child Development Prof Manju Baghmar said that a convocation ceremony is not just about receiving a degree, but about continuously updating one’s knowledge in a changing world. She said India is a nation of youth, and degrees should not be limited to jobs or personal gain alone. Educated and self-reliant daughters will play a vital role in building a developed India. She urged students to become creators of opportunities rather than seekers of them.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof BP Saraswat presented the outline of the programme and highlighted the university’s achievements and progress report.

On the occasion, Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain, Vallabhnagar MLA Udaylal Dangi, Gogunda MLA Pratap Gameti, heads of various academic departments, teaching staff and a large number of students and family members were present.
