NCERT Books Mandatory from Grades 1-8 in CBSE Schools
Udaipur, July 28, 2025 - The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to use only NCERT books from Grades 1 to 8, in line with a new initiative by the Ministry of Education. Until now, NCERT (National Council for Education Research and Training) books were compulsory only for Grades 9 to 12.
The Ministry believes this move will bring uniformity in the curriculum as envisioned by the National Education Policy (NEP) and provide quality education aligned with national standards. It will also prevent the imposition of private publishers' books on students.
Recently, NCERT also announced the development of two special curriculum modules based on India's Operation Sindoor. The special modules will have around 8-10 pages highlighting India’s strategic military action following the Pahalgam terror attack. According to an Education Ministry source, this aims to make students aware of the country’s military strength.
“While the first special module on Operation Sindoor will be for students of Classes 3 to 8 and second will be available for Classes 9 to 12. The achievements of India and her Armed Forces will be described in 8 to 10 page modules. The aim of these modules is to make students aware about India's military power and how Pakistan was defeated once again,” say reports quoting the source.
