Aim is to inculcate values of patriotism and devotion to duty in school children
Udaipur - NCERT has included in its Grade 6 curriculum the poem titled National War Memorial and chapter called Veer Abdul Hameed from this year. This step, announced on September 20, 2024, was taken jointly by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Defence keeping in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.
This decision comes on the back of an action plan started by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the MoE/NCERT towards branding National War Memorial (NWM) as an iconic National monument and therefore adding NWM and related references/material in the curriculum.
The aim, according to the MoE, is “to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty and courage and sacrifice among the school children and participation of youth in Nation building”.
Veer Abdul Hameed has been written in honour of the Braveheart CQMH Abdul Hameed who gave up his life fighting in the India-Pakistan war of 1965 and was awarded the Param Veer Chakra posthumously.
