NEET Exam Power Cut Case: HC Refuses Bonus Marks or Re-Exam
Petitioners claimed disruption owing to power outage at 15 centres; Court says exam of 22 lakh students cannot be compromised for a few
July 9, 2025 - The High Court has refused to order a re-examination of NEET UG 2025 or award bonus marks to candidates affected by power outages during the exam. The Court said that the interests of 2.2 million (22 lakh) candidates who appeared for the exam cannot be compromised to address the grievances of a handful of petitioners.
Justice Sameer Jain gave this decision while dismissing the petitions filed by Roshan Yadav and others.
The petitioners argued that during NEET UG 2025, power outages and other issues affected around 5,390 students across 15 centres. In some locations, the power was out for 5-to-28 minutes, disrupting the exam process. According to the petitioners, they scored between 400 and 600 marks, close to the cut-off, and claimed they could have scored higher had there been no disruption.
However, government counsel MS Raghav countered that only a small number of candidates approached the Court, while 99.5% of the candidates were satisfied with the exam. A committee formed to look into the issue also concluded that the disruptions caused by storms and bad weather had minimal impact on the overall exam process.
After hearing both sides, the Court gave its ruling denying any relief to the petitioners.
