New Exam Pattern for UGC-NET

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) has recently opted for a different pattern from July 2012 onwards. Now, all three papers of this exam will be of objective type.

In the conventional method being followed till now, UGC-NET was having Paper-I and Paper II as objective type and Paper-III as descriptive type. But applicable from July 2012, all the three papers will be of objective type.

In the conventional method being followed till now, UGC-NET was having Paper-I and Paper II as objective type and Paper-III as descriptive type. But applicable from July 2012, all the three papers will be of objective type.

In addition there will be 60 questions in Paper-I and the candidate have to complete only 50 of them. Paper-II and Paper-III will be having 50 and 75 questions respectively, which are mandatory for the candidate to attempt. The total marks are 100+100+150, respectively for the three papers.

Another change is the cut-off marks, the cut-off marks are revised in the following manner:

Paper 1 : 40% (40 Marks) Paper 1 : 35% (35 Marks) Paper 1 : 35% (35 Marks)
Paper 2 : 40% (40 Marks) Paper 2 : 35% (35 Marks) Paper 2 : 35% (35 Marks)
Paper 3 : 50% (75 Marks) Paper 3 : 45% (67.5 Marks ~ rounded off to 68 Marks) Paper 3 : 40% (60 Marks)

Individuals need to qualify the minimum given criteria in order to be considered for the publication of result.

However, the final qualifying standard for the JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and eligibility of the candidate for the Lectureship will be solely decided by UGC before the result declaration.

There is no change in the subject’s syllabus and there is no negative marking.
