Newspaper Reading Made Mandatory for Students in State Govt Schools

As per directives issued by Rajasthan government, students will read newspapers for 10 minutes in morning assembly to improve awareness and vocabulary

Udaipur, Jan 1, 2026 - The Rajasthan government has made newspaper reading mandatory in government schools across the State. As per the new directive, 10 minutes during the morning assembly will be dedicated to newspaper reading and recitation.

The order has been issued by Education Secretary Krishna Kunal who said that this initiative will help students gain awareness of national, international and sports-related news, while also developing a regular reading habit. It will be an important step toward enhancing reading culture, general knowledge, and language development among students.

In addition, students will be required to identify five new words daily from the newspaper and share them during the prayer assembly. This step is aimed at improving students’ vocabulary and language skills.

Key Instructions

  • Senior Secondary Schools: Must subscribe to at least two newspapers — one English and one Hindi.
  • Government Upper Primary Schools: Must subscribe to two Hindi newspapers.
  • English-medium Government Schools: Must subscribe to at least two newspapers — one English and one Hindi.
