Prayatna, the social responsibility club of IIM Udaipur, will be conducting its first flagship event “Udbodhan” on October 16, 2013 in IIM Udaipur.

Prayatna, the social responsibility club of IIM Udaipur, will be conducting its first flagship event “Udbodhan” on October 16, 2013 in IIM Udaipur.

A special event “I Care” is being organised this year and R. D. Thulasi Raj, Director -Operations of Aravind Eye Care Systems and Executive Director of LAICO, Tamil Nadu will talk on “Building socially responsible businesses”.

Aravind Eye Care System is a network of hospitals, clinics, community outreach efforts, factories, and research and training institutes vin South India that has treated more than 32 million patients and has performed 4 million surgeries.

Each year, Aravind does 60 percent as many eye surgeries as the United Kingdom’s National Health System, at one one-thousandth of the cost.

The second speaker for the day will be Dr. Alok Vyas, Chief Consultant at Alok Eye Hospital and Research Centre, Udaipur and President, Medical Practioners Society, Udaipur. Dr. Vyas will talk on “Issues in the eye care system and the ways to overcome them” with focus on how people from underprivileged society in Udaipur can be served better.

Dr. Vyas has been deeply associated with social service in the field of eye care from a couple of decades and provides free service to NGOs in organizing eye camps and conducting free surgeries.

He has also been the District Governor Lions Club International and has held other important positions in the past. He was awarded by the District Administration of Udaipur, Rajasthan Government for his efforts in social service.

The event will be attended by doctors, students from medical colleges, entrepreneurs and NGOs working in the field of eye care in Udaipur, IIM Udaipur community and the people of Udaipur. An important section of the event will be the Eye Donation Camp organised in the campus.
