To study viruses and their related diseases, RNT Medical College will establish state’s third Viral Research Diagnostic Lab in collaboration of Indian Council of Medical Research (Delhi) who will provide fund of Rs. 1.4 Crore along with 5 technical staff as well.

The team from ICMR toured the microbiology lab at medical college and selected 100 sq meter space at the first floor for the lab. The work will commence after the sanction received in 6 months. Rs. 50 Lac will be spent for lab construction, renovation and the rest Rs. 90 Lac for machines and resources.

HoD of Microbiology Lab Dr. Anshu Sharma stated that with the new lab, various studies will be done including herpes virus infection during pregnancy, human papillomavirus, cytomegalovirus, rotavirus in kids etc. and adequate treatment will be provided as the report will be available in 7-10 days as compared to before when the report was sent to Pune and it would take 15-20 days.
