April 30, 2025 - The Supreme Court today stayed a Delhi High Court order directing the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLU) to revise the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 Undergraduate (UG) merit list owing to alleged errors in the question papers. The Court also issued a notice to the Consortium of NLUs and posted the case for further hearing on May 5.

A Bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih issued the interim stay while hearing a Special Leave Petition filed by a candidate challenging the Delhi High Court's April 23 judgment. Siddhi Sandeep Landa argued that she and other candidates who took Set A of the question paper would be unfairly disadvantaged by the Delhi High Court’s order.

The High Court had found errors in four questions across Sets B, C and D of the exam and directed that marks be awarded to candidates who attempted those sets. However, the Division Bench excluded candidates who attempted Set A from receiving this benefit, ruling that Set A contained no such errors.

It further directed the Consortium to revise the marksheet and issue a new merit list within four weeks.

The petitioner had said in her plea, “Students like the petitioner who received “Question Paper Set A” will not receive marks for a question not attempted. While, those in Sets B, C, and D were granted marks by the impugned judgement irrespective of effort or attempt, compounding the inequity, thereby robbing the petitioner and other Set A students of a level playing field”.

The Delhi High Court ruling had come following multiple petitions filed over errors in the CLAT UG 2025 question paper for the exam held on December 1, 2024. The results had been announced on December 7 and was challenged in seven High Courts.
