A group of representatives from various private schools of Udaipur gave a memorandum to the City Administration on the amendment of winter break, claiming that breaks in January creates hindrance in timely completion of syllabus.

On 6th Morning members of School Association met Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and in their plea, demanded to overlook additional holidays that were given when the winter season turned harsh. They also requested that in case additional holidays were still announced, there should be a prior notice before the declaration.

According Dr. Lokesh Jain, Convener, School Association, all private schools are compelled for vacation from 25th – 31st every year as per government norms, but in January when the severe winters strike, the duration of the break is extended on orders from the local administration. This creates problems in the syllabus management and studies and syllabus completion take a hit.

In the various suggestions provided by the representatives, a change in timing was proposed, where instead of announcing extended holidays ,the timings could be amended, as the temperature after 9 am is bearable and even toddlers can show up in classes without much difficulty.

In the words of Deepak Sharma, Joint Director, CPS, there are only 210 working days in schedule. On ground realities, merely 180 days of classes can be framed which is bad for both school administration and the students.

He added that “on behalf of all schools we had met with Hemant Gera, Ex- District Collector, Udaipur last year as in absence of notification a lot of confusion was created”.

To overcome such situations, the schools following CBSE curriculum met the ADM and requested to take a decision after consulting with the newly founded Association. In the meeting Priya Boss, Secretary of the Association provided list of E-mail address and phone numbers of all schools in town.
