Udaipur, April 10, 2025 - A recent meeting was held between officials of Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) and the Directorate of College Education regarding preparations for new courses. This is under a new initiative by the government to make the youth more employment-oriented by placing greater emphasis on skill-based courses. Several new courses are being planned to launch in various government colleges across the State starting this academic session. Under this programme, students at the college level will be equipped for jobs alongside their academic education.

Preparations have already begun in colleges selected for this project. Discussions are ongoing about the syllabus, fee structure, admission process and training for both students and faculty related to these degree courses. It was informed in the meeting that an additional Rs 5,000 will be charged from each student for the new courses. This amount will be paid to the Sector Skill Council.

However, several members suggested that the additional fee should be borne by the government as not all students may be able to afford it. However, a final decision regarding the additional fee is yet to be made.

A key feature of these professional courses is that students will undergo internships during their studies, which will not only help in skill development but also prepare them as professional personnel according to market needs. The Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), established by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), will play a significant role in implementing these new courses.

Among the planned programmes, four courses are from the Commerce stream and one from Business Management. In Commerce, new courses include Banking, Finance & Insurance, Retail Management, Logistics and Tourism & Travel Management.
