Set in the sunny disposition of Rajasthan skies, and amidst the vast green expanse of Balicha, IIM Udaipur, in association with Secure Meters are ready to host the second edition of it national management fest – ‘Solaris 2016’ on 12^th and 13^th of November.

In drawing parallels with the Indian economic context, the journey of the institute and Solaris in general has been nothing short of the aptly titled The Quantum Leap i.e. the Indian economic boom post liberalization and the way forward. The two-day long extravaganza, consisting of four management summits, events and competitions, sees participation from pan-India management schools and other graduate and post-graduate colleges, young professionals and established industry giants. The fest is entirely conceptualized and managed by students of the institute with help from generous sponsors supporting them throughout the process. Solaris has joined hands with the giants of their respective fields, including Hotel Inder Residency as hospitality partner, Question Pro as online research partner, Bloomberg as knowledge partner, TOPSIM – Tata Interactive Systems as simulation partners and Nearbuy as event partner.

Leadership Summit

The prestigious event will be kick started with the flagship event of Solaris – the Leadership Summit, organized by the Media and Industry Interaction Cell (MiiC) of IIM Udaipur. The theme for this year’s summit is “Rise – Traverse, Transform, Transcend” where in luminaries from different fields of the industry will be talking about how they, with their managerial skills, have taken today’s corporate giants to the very acme of success or have rescued them from troubled waters and thereby creating an impact in the society.

The summit will be a spectator to dignitaries such as Mr. Satyabrata Dey (Chairman, Sreeleathers Limited), Mr. Jithin Nedumala (Co-founder, Make A Difference), Mr. Ashish Gupta (Vice President, Reliance Industries Limited), Mr. Ashoke Banerjee (Former Senior Executive Director, GSK) and Mr. Sanjay Tripathi (Senior Executive Vice-President, HDFC Life) will be delivering speeches on their respective fields and illuminating the audiences with their vast knowledge of the industry through an interactive session.

Antardrishti – The Annual Business Conclave of IIM Udaipur

The Leadership Summit will be followed by the business conclave – Antardrishti, organized, in collaboration by ConsultU, The Consulting Club and PiE, The Economics Club of IIM Udaipur. The summit will see luminaries such as Mr. Gurumoorthy Mahalingam (Executive Director, RBI), Mr. Abhishant Pant (Founder, Cashless Journey), Mr. Sriram Krishnan (Head – Securities Services, Deutsche Bank India), Mr. Kumar Karpe (CEO, TechProcess Payment Services Limited), Mr. Nipun Kumar (Head – Strategy and Planning, Hero FinCorp Limited) and Mr. Rajesh Prasad (Vice-President, RuPay Acceptance) address the participants on several economic topics including “Emerging Trends in Payments Systems” and “India : Future Growth Driver of World Economy”.

Mr. Frederico Gil Sander, World Bank’s Senior Country Economist for India will also be engaging the audiences which will provide a great opportunity to discuss the contemporary macroeconomic factors affecting India and their interplay with global economic and financial situation amongst other economic issues.

The fest continues with a stimulating line up of events and competitions conducted by the Marketing Club – Marclan, a business quiz conducted by the Literary and Quizzing society – Potpourri along with individual events by the operations club – Skein and the finance club- Finomina.

Arth-Samvaad- The Finance Summit

The second day of the management fest will commence with the Finance Summit – Arth-Samvaad, the flagship event of Finomina, the Finance Club of IIM Udaipur. The thought provoking session will consist of interactive panel discussions and a face-off session. This year the summit will include topics from the structural issues in Indian Economy like “Is the time ripe for corporate debt market to flourish in India?” and “Is the Indian Market correctly valued in current times?” Speakers such as Mr. Nirmal Jain (Chairman, IIFL), Mr. Kapil Bali (CEO, Yes Securities Limited), Mr. Sarbvir Singh (MD, Capital18) and Mr. Harsha Upadhyaya (CIO, Equity, Kotak MF) will be gracing the stage and sharing their insights into these issues with the present members of audience.

Samvaah- The Annual Marketing Conclave of IIM Udaipur

The final summit of the managerial extravaganza is Samvaah – the Marketing Conclave, organized by Marclan – the Marketing Club of IIM Udaipur. The summit discusses the shifting power dynamics in the evolving marketplace, the paradoxes wrought by connectivity and the growing subculture splintering that shapes the future consumers. Renowned stalwarts from the marketing industry such as Ms. Manmeet Vohra (Director, Marketing and Category, Starbucks India), Mr. Vikas Mehta (Group CMO & President, Marketing Services, MullenLowe Lintas Group), Mr. Subhamoy Das, Mr. Subhranshu Singh (Head of Marketing, Star Sports, India), Ms. Suparna Mitra (CMO, Titan) and Mr. Suraja Kishore (National Head- Planning, Truth Central McCann Worldgroup, McCann Erickson) would be taking up the stage at Samvaah and engaging with the participants, speaking about the inner workings of the marketing industry in these changed times. This year the Summit will include topics like “Marketing Beyond Conventional Strategies” and “The Sway of Brand Communications”.

Competitions and Workshops

The day is packed with competitions from all fields in business including marketing, finance, economics, operations and quizzes. A staggering amount of prize money is on offer through the course of 20+ events incepting days before the actual day of the fest and reaching their finales during Solaris. The competitions boast of total prize money of upwards of Rs 4 lakhs, a staggering amount for competitions primarily testing the students’ proficiency in their managerial studies.

The event will also see participation from various colleges on a pan-India basis with teams registering from every nook and cranny of the country in the online rounds. Keynote Address – Dr. Hasit B. Joshipura

The second chapter of Solaris will reach its culmination with a riveting keynote address from esteemed speakers like Dr. Hasit B. Joshipura, the current Head – Corporate Centre, Larsen & Toubro, and former Managing Director, GSK Pharmaceuticals Limited, India. Dr. Joshipura will be enlightening the students with his experiences and immense knowledge in the art of choosing the mergers and acquisitions that are the right fit for a company.

Final Word

The second leg of the annual management fest of IIM Udaipur is destined to be a leap forward from Solaris’15, and continue the event’s success as one of the top-ranking business extravaganzas of the country.
