Young innovative minds gathered to showcase their novel scientific ideas at the third season of the ‘BrainCafe Budding Scientist Contest’ in Udaipur today.

School children from standards 1st to 8th participated in the event showcasing innovative models such as Electro Magnetism, Solar Helicopter, Water & Electricity Wastage Alarm, Agriculture Practices, Safety on Highways, Friction Rollers etc.

The event took place at Rockwoods High School, Chirtakoot Nagar, Udaipur.

A total of 142 students from 40 schools in Rajasthan and Gujarat participated in the qualifying round leading up to the finale.

From the host city Udaipur, 40 students from 10 schools participated. In its third year, the contest has generated good response from schools and students across the country. The winners of the qualifier round will present their experiments at the finals, which will be held in Mumbai in January 2014.

The occasion was graced by the presence of the Honorable Guests including Dr SN Gupta – HOD Science – Lions Club President and Gazetted Officer Government Meera Girls College, Dr Asha Gupta – Gazetted officer Government Meera Girls College, Surendra Rawal – Principal Diet College Udaipur, Dr Rajesh Mantri – Principal Maharani Girls College of Education Debari, Anirudh Tiwari – Principal Padma Binani Public School, Dr Ranjana Sharma – HOD Science Nathdwara Institute of Engineering and Technology, Vikram Singh Shaktawat – Principal BN Boys College.

Schools participating in the contest were St. Anthony Sr. Secondary School, Seedling Modern School, St. Teresa, CPS, Arya Vidhya Peeth, Globus International School, Vadanta International, Oxford International School, Tagore Public School, St. Stephen School, GD Goenka School, Sanskriti School, Central Academy, European international school etc among others

BrainCafé Budding Scientist Contest is a hunt to discover the future scientist from across the country. The themes for experiments this year include Environment, Force & Energy, Food and Body systems, Magnet, Electricity and Circuits, Friction and Pressure, Heredity and Evolution, Electromagnetism etc.

Being one of India’s largest annual science competitions, the BrainCafé Budding Scientist Contest provides students a unique platform to showcase their ability to apply scientific principles for creating working models. Looking at the popularity and the eagerness among young students, from this year onwards the contest was made open for all schools across the country to participate. The winners from the final round will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.

From Solar Helicopter to Water & Electricity Wastage Alarm, Electro Magnetism to Water & Electricity Wastage Alarm, Friction Rollers to Wind Mill– the diversity of creativity was phenomenal. The projects were demonstrated applying the BrainCafé system of learning scientific principles,” said Roopesh Verma, BrainCafé Rajasthan State Head.
