Study Abroad with Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence
The scheme provides financial assistance to meritorious students from Rajasthan to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies at the top foreign universities
Udaipur, Feb 03, 2026: Studying at top-ranking global universities is a dream cherished by many students. World-class education and research facilities, expert faculty, international collaborations, better employment opportunities, and rich cross-cultural exposure attract lakhs of students every year to pursue studies overseas. However, financial constraints often pose a major challenge. Among the various government welfare schemes in the field of education, the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship for Academic Excellence plays a significant role in overcoming this barrier by giving wings to the dream of studying abroad.
Formerly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence, this scheme was announced on August 20, 2021 by the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, in commemoration of late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India. The scheme provides financial assistance to meritorious students from Rajasthan to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies at universities ranked among the top 150 in the QS World University Rankings.
Under this scheme, selected students receive annual financial assistance of up to INR 50 lakhs, which covers tuition fees and bench fees, along with additional support for living expenses based on family income. To be eligible, the applicant must be a resident of Rajasthan, not more than 35 years of age, and must have secured admission to a university ranked within the top 150 QS rankings at the time of application, and must have obtained at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination.
Applicants are required to submit a valid Jan Aadhaar Card, an income certificate, and other prescribed documents. Based on annual family income, beneficiaries are divided into three categories. Students from families earning below INR 8 lakhs per annum receive support for tuition and bench fees up to INR 50 lakhs along with INR 12 lakhs for living expenses. Those in the INR 8–25 lakhs income bracket receive INR 6 lakhs for living expenses in addition to tuition and bench fee support, while families earning above INR 25 lakhs receive assistance limited to tuition and bench fees.
Every year, 200 students are selected under the scheme, with 30% reservation for female candidates. Furthermore, 75% of the seats are reserved for students from engineering, architecture, medical, and dentistry disciplines at the undergraduate level. Detailed information and application procedures are available on the RajSSO portal.
Such educational interventions by the government have already transformed the lives of many students and hold the potential to benefit many more. It is important that eligible candidates make use of these opportunities and, in turn, contribute to society and national development through the education they acquire.
