Transfer Hopes For State Third-Grade Teachers Wane

Protest after State Education Minister’s ‘disappointing’ statement

Government teachers in Rajasthan who have been waiting for announcement of Third-Grade transfers have received a jolt by a statement from the State Education Minister Madan Dilawar on social media. The Minister has said that since the selection of Third-Grade teachers is done within districts, therefore their transfers would be against the rules. They are expected to continue to remain in the same district.

Third-grade teachers from across the State have launched a protest following this statement. Vipin Prakash Sharma, the state president of the Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers’ Union, said the teachers have been waiting for the transfer since the past five years. Earlier it was the Congress government in power that had been only giving verbal assurances and then there was hope from the BJP government, he added.

In 2021, applications were invited for the transfers and around 85,000 applications were received. However, transfers did not open the next year and citing a new policy, they were postponed again. Even in the election year this did not happen with the Education Minister referring to the new policy.

The teachers had been demanding transfers for the past five years with more than three lakh teachers waiting for it. The last transfers happened only under the BJP government in 2018.
