November 10, 2024 - The education department has announced that teachers transfers will now consider factors like teaching quality and the overall results of schools. This new transfer policy aims to improve the quality of education in government schools across the state, according to department officials.
Currently, around 90,000 Grade-III teachers have been awaiting transfers for the past six years, with the last transfers conducted under the previous BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje. The delay in transfers has led to protests from teachers seeking placement changes.
Last month, teachers associations met with education department officials to request that the draft policy be made public for feedback. Teachers emphasized that the policy should only be finalized after thorough discussions with all stakeholders.
A senior education department official explained that school performance in academics, sports, extracurricular activities, and the teacher's contributions to these results will play a role in transfer decisions. Additionally, teachers will be eligible for transfer after completing a specified term in their current position.
After consultations with teachers associations, the draft policy has been submitted to the state government. Officials shared that various teacher groups suggestions have been included in the draft, which has now been forwarded to the cabinet for approval. Once approved, the policy will be implemented.
To support this policy, the department is conducting a survey to assess all existing vacancies, aiming to facilitate a smoother implementation process.
