The team, comprising of Anirudh Pandey, Anubhav Bhardwaj, Sneha Bhardwaj and Anubhuti Bhardwaj is one of the two teams from Rajasthan, who have reached the Finals of the competition; the other team is Jeevan from Pilani.

Of the 7 finalists two teams are from Rajasthan and it has happened for the first time in the history of the Annual Microsoft Imagine Cup competition, that two teams from the same state have made it to the finals. The Microsoft Imagine Cup is an annually held International technology competition for students.

Their project ‘JAL’ aims at real time water usage monitoring; helping the households to dynamically determine the sectorial water usage (viz. usage in kitchen, washing and other miscellaneous uses) and manage the available water resources. The system also targets at promoting the “Water Harvesting” practice.

Besides this, the system also checks the undue wastage of water due to any human carelessness.

The System has two main interacting components: first, the Household interface and the other is the Municipal web application.

On one hand the household application monitors and manages the micro hydrological cycle within a house, whereas on the other, the web application gives a larger community picture of the water consumption pattern and helps the water distribution authority to manage and formulate the water distribution network.

Anirudh Pandey, in his conversation with UT said, “We would be dividing the sample into 3 major user groups and would be focusing on managing every element within the Source to Usage chain of Water management”.

“The users at the Individual level would be monitored for their water usage patterns. Secondly, the Metrological Department would provide us the data about the expected rainfall, with which we would harvest rain water and compute data real time with the help of Artificial intelligence parameters.”

Anirudh further said, “In Water Distribution, our project would be helpful to identify any possible blockages, hurdles and leakage in water supply as the amount of water we supply should be equal to the amount delivered. The data would all be residing on the Cloud storage, so it would be easy to access it from anywhere without any obligation”.

It took a full year for team ‘Poseidon’ to complete this project using various Microsoft technologies such as Bing Maps, ASP.NET, Windows Azure, SQL Azure, WPF, Silverlight, Windows Embedded Standard 7, etc.

Anirudh added, “We received great support from all including Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Jaipur.”
