UGC says CA, CS, ICWA qualifications to be equivalent to PG degrees

Students who qualify for any of these degrees will be treated equivalent to postgraduate degree holders.

The UGC had received requests from ICAI, ICSI to consider the qualification awarded by them as equal to PG degrees.

Students who qualify for CA, CS and ICWA will be considered equivalent to postgraduate degree holders, said UGC. The University Grants Commission had received requests from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Institute of Cost Accountants of India and Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to consider the qualifications awarded by them as equivalent to postgraduation degrees.

UGC then formed a committee to consider this request. The expert committee then recommended that CA, CS and ICWA be considered equivalent to PG degrees.

The move has received positive response as this will not only help the Chartered Accountant aspirants to pursue higher studies but also facilitate the mobility of Indian CAs globally.

According to ICSI, the course contents have been designed to keep in pace with the changing dynamics of global governance framework. The student holding the CS degree will get an opportunity to pursue PHD in commerce and allied disciplines. The institute has full-fledged academic and research wing that enhances the acumen and expertise of its members and students. It encourages them to undertake research in crucial areas like corporate governance, company law, tax laws, CSR, securities laws, finance, capital market, accounting, economic and other commercial laws etc.
