NAAC grading holds significant importance for universities and a good NAAC grade enhances a university’s reputation and credibility
Udaipur, April 22, 2025 - Universities will now need to demonstrate excellence not only in academic quality but also in environmental conservation. The UGC (University Grants Commission) has incorporated environmental considerations into the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) grading process.
To achieve NAAC accreditation, universities are now required to adopt eco-friendly measures such as campus greenery, solid waste management, rainwater harvesting and the use of solar energy.
Universities and other higher education institutions in India are subject to the NAAC accreditation process, which evaluates and certifies their quality. It assists in guaranteeing that colleges fulfil specific quality requirements and that their curricula are of the highest calibre. The teaching-learning processes, curriculum, faculty, research, infrastructure, and student services are just a few of the factors that NAAC considers while evaluating universities.
NAAC grading holds significant importance for universities. A good NAAC grade enhances a university’s reputation and credibility.
Including environmental factors in the accreditation process is expected to yield positive results. It will foster a connection between students and the environment, increasing awareness. Regular audits will also encourage innovation in environmental protection efforts by universities.
In addition, universities will now have to conduct regular green audits. The UGC has issued new guidelines to universities in this regard.
Experts say that under green audits, assessments will be conducted on aspects such as greenery, energy usage, water resources, waste management systems and carbon emission levels of the university campuses.
Following the UGC’s directive, universities have already begun efforts in this direction.
