An alarming issue has come up regarding “zero” marks given despite correct answers in Economics examination.

A student got the shock of his life when he was marked “zero” for a number of correct answers in the economics examination. Even for answers where he deserved full marks, he was given half out of the allotted marks for the questions. Not only this, another fact that came forward is that the numbers on the mark sheet are different from the numbers on the answer sheet.

Naman Mehta of Seedling Public School, Udaipur, appeared for 12th CBSE board exams and scored a gross of 87.8 percent. Upon checking the mark sheet he found that his lowest marking was for Economics which was 69 whereas he expected 90 marks based on his hard work. Dissatisfied with the marking, he requested the board to send him his economics sheet for verification. As per the answer sheet, he was given zero for 5 answers which were correct and was given half where he deserved full marks. This was verified by other experts of the city as well, who confirmed that all the questions were correctly answered by Naman and marking was erroneous.

Naman registered an online complaint with Central Education Minister Prakash Javdekar and CBSE Board informing them of the error and asking for help. Till now, he hasn’t received a satisfactory response from either of them. He has demanded for an explanation regarding this blunder and has also asked for increasing his marks based on his correct answers. He is greatly disturbed that a low marking would prevent him from getting admission in a prestigious college which will affect his future to a great extent.
